A Beiteddine Festival production
Alain Weber, Artistic Director
Dr. Kyriakos Kalaitzidis, Musical Director

June 21 & 22

This musical journey illustrates the trade route from China to Venice. The road bears the name of the most precious merchandise that transited: Silk. This historical trade route gave people the chance to exchange ideas, goods, and religious beliefs; countless artistic influences were transmitted. Lebanon was at the very heart of this journey. More than 70 musicians, singers and dancers from Lebanon and the world will share the stage; Rafik Ali Ahmad, Abir Nehmé, Charbel Rouhana, Lubnan Baalbaki, Mohammed Motamedi, Sima Dance Company, Indian Dance troupe Gair and Ensemble Venice.
The French-established Société des Chemins de fer Ottomans économiques de Beyrouth- Damas-Hauran was granted a concession in 1891. In the beginning of August 1895 the first train took off from the port of Beirut to Rayak railway station. In 1942 this railway got connected with the rest of the Arab world, Europe, and Africa. It served as a basic means of transportation at that time. The railway became a part of the Intercontinental rail circle transporting people and goods, rulers and their armed forces.
